I was going to go into the five gifts, but I need to hit home the purpose of this ministry: Live One! – Live In Unity! The primary purpose of the Fivefold is to teach the work of Jesus in order to build the body.
Human creation was the only time that everything created was in unity.
The Trinity and Humans were not only One but 100% in Unity. Then, Man severed the relationship.
God tried many times to bring unity back, but humans refused. It wasn’t until Jesus came into the picture that the possibility of unity became real as long as humans received it.
Ephesians 4
Ephesians 4:1–3 Therefore I, the prisoner of the Lord, implore you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, showing tolerance for one another in love, being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. ~NASB95
I want to focus on the word “Love.” It is the Greek word ἀγάπη agápē. We have 9 Greek words in scripture for our one English word, love in this verse. Someone said me, “Isn’t that a verb?” Yes, it is, but it is not my point. My point is the difference between agápē and agapáō is night and day. Agapáō can be used without the power of the Holy Spirit, but agápē is only from the Holy Spirit.
Romans 5:5 Hope does not disappoint because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. To love with agápē, it must be the Holy Spirit’s power flowing through us.
To agápē your brothers and sisters, you must follow after the Spirit and have the Spirit pour agápē out of us.
I pray I don’t need to completely break v1-3 down because they are clear as glass—unity of the Spirit. This is the mission of the Trinity and the calling for the Body to be One. Jesus prayed that we be one as Jesus is with His Father.
John 17:20–21 “I do not ask on behalf of these alone, but for those also who believe in Me through their word; that they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me. ~NASB95
Unity: the Greek word ἑνότης henótēsand means Oneness with the Holy Spirit.
I can easily put many scriptures on here and take space but Unity is the foundation of creation.
